What to Expect

Software Testing and Validation at McLaren Automotive is a key part in the development of our high-performing cars. Software Testing is performed in close collaboration with system engineers, in-house controls software developers, and vehicle development engineers, using agile methodologies. This role is based at our primary testing facility, located near Barcelona in Spain. This location offers the ideal combination of static and dynamic test environments for vehicle testing.

The broad technical scope extends from traditional CAN EE Architecture to state-of-the-art Zonal EE Architecture with Ethernet backbone and AUTOSAR software methodology and toolchain. In addition to extensive vehicle testing, McLaren use Hardware-in-the-Loop rigs, simulation and employ test automation techniques to validate our complex embedded systems which include everything from Hybrid Powertrain, Transmission and Chassis Control systems to infotainment, body, ADAS and vehicle connectivity systems.

What You'll Do

You'll lead a team of engineers responsible for the design and execution of tests on electronic systems, software and whole-vehicle EE architecture to support the delivery of all McLaren vehicle programmes through the development stage and into series production. Your focus will be on reliability, robustness, and delivery to ensure the highest quality product and the best customer experience.

Accountabilities include:

  • Ensuring robust execution of the validation test plan across vehicles and rigs.
  • Technical leadership and line management for a team for specialist engineers responsible for defining and executing test cases across all vehicle domains.
  • Technical leadership of analysis and investigation of complex system issue root cause analysis.
  • Management of testing suppliers and the associated resources.
  • Team management, resource forecasting and budget management.

What You'll Bring

  • Excellent knowledge of Automotive network protocols, e.g. Ethernet, CAN, LIN, XCP, UDS.
  • Significant experience with verification and validation of electronic systems in line with ISO-26262, covering technical and planning experience
  • Working experience with agile software development
  • Electrical, software or automotive engineering degree 2:1, or above
  • Preferred ISTQB certification
  • Previous experience with team management, resource forecasting and supplier management.
