Purpose of the Role:

This role manages delivery of McLaren Racing’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) agenda. Your work will span internal employee education and engagement, delivering social enterprise programmes and influencing our sport and industry to drive meaningful change. You will work within our Sustainability team who own the strategy and delivery of our ambitious targets across our four Sustainability pillars: DE&I, Health and Wellbeing, Net Zero and Circular Economy.

You will collaborate with stakeholders within McLaren Racing, with our race series, social enterprise organisations and higher education establishments to deliver a range of programmes and initiatives. Internally, you’ll advise various teams within the organisation to ensure that our culture, ways of working, policies and employee lifecycle weave DE&I into the heart of McLaren Racing. Your role will also include leading the delivery of McLaren Racing Engage, our flagship programme to diversify the pool of talent entering the motorsport industry, working with the social enterprise organisations that make up the Engage Alliance.

Role Dimensions:

  • Reports to Director of Sustainability.
  • In this role, you will lead the delivery of our DE&I agenda within the team and will work with external stakeholders to influence and drive change.
  • You will collaborate with the wider Sustainability and People Team to design, implement and ensure the success of our people programmes and initiatives.
  • You will line manage the Sustainability Associate.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Working with our people data and analytics teams to ensure we have the appropriate DE&I data collection, reporting and analytical processes in place to enable data-led, insight-driven programmes and initiatives that will result in measurable impact, and to deliver regular internal and external reporting on performance and progress. This will include Gender Pay Gap reports, the DE&I section of the annual sustainability report, demographic reporting, implementing measurements against KPIs, internal performance insights, and external benchmarking.
  • Providing expert DE&I knowledge, advice and guidance at every touchpoint in the McLaren Racing people journey, to appropriately evolve our policies and processes in line with best practice.
  • Working closely with external DE&I stakeholders to build inclusivity and accessibility into all policies and systems, ensuring intersectionality throughout by aligning the project strands.
  • Owning the design and delivery of our internal education and awareness programmes that help embed an inclusive and inspiring culture across our business.
  • Working closely with our internal people networks (currently: Driven Women, Racing Roots, Mental Health First Aiders and STEM ambassadors) to enable connections with likeminded colleagues, and to involve our people in delivering our key programmes and outreach.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for all STEM outreach initiatives, effectively liaising with our STEM ambassador network to secure internal representative support and promoting STEM and motorsport to under-represented groups as an accessible career choice.
  • Working with our communications and events team to define and deliver our awareness calendar throughout the year, using these key dates to raise visibility of the DE&I agenda, to educate and engage our team and to illustrate McLaren’s impact externally.
  • Leading delivery of McLaren Racing Engage - our Social Enterprise Collaboration - to diversify the pool of talent entering motorsport and our team from school age to experienced hire.
  • Own the delivery of scholarship programmes in place with higher education institutions – accountable for relationship management, process design and internal stakeholder engagement and involvement.
  • Representing McLaren Racing on Race Series DE&I working groups, influencing the outcomes to drive meaningful impact, and leading McLaren Racing’s participation in relevant Series-level events, initiatives and programme.
  • Overseeing delivery of UK-based work experience programmes.
  • Line management and oversee work delivery of the Sustainability Associate.

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • A background in a matrixed organisation within the engineering or technology sector.
  • Experience delivering a DE&I strategy cross-organisation working with a range of stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Experience of implementing DE&I focused policy and process changes into the employee lifecycle.
  • Experience designing and delivering immersive and engaging DE&I education and training.
  • Evidenced expertise of DE&I best practice and comfort being the subject matter expert within an organisation.
  • Evidenced confidence to deliver content in an engaging way, whether it’s training colleagues, pitching strategies, or presenting to large audiences.
  • A creative and innovative approach to juggling multiple priorities in partnership with our teams and our external partners.
  • Strong project management skills, with an ability to switch from big picture thinking to operational detail.
  • A creative and proactive approach to continuously improving the way we work.
  • An ability to build engage, influence and persuade - at every level of business, and engage with people from the point of where they are in their maturity of understanding of the DE&I agenda.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren
Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking. Here at McLaren, we offer hybrid working
with 3 days a week based in the MTC.

areas, as well as direct access to park and common land. The MTC is connected
to Woking mainline station via regular shuttle buses, from which London
Waterloo is a 30 minute train ride.
