Senior SQA Engineer - MSO

BackgroundPurpose of Role

This is a role which requires the candidate to work closely with suppliers to McLaren Special Operations (MSO) to ensure that all bespoke and heritage materials meet our McLaren quality requirements. You'll provide leadership for assigned suppliers to ensure parts are delivered at the required time to the required quality levels in support of the McLaren business objectives. You'll develop strategic supply base improvement initiatives, that underpin the McLaren continuous improvement ethos. Whilst the primary function of this role is supplier quality assurance, it will also include other aspects of quality deliverables including warranty.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Work in collaboration with cross functional partners to support business targets
  • Ensure robust evaluation of any new supplier sourcing to maintain an efficient supply base
  • Support Supplier selection & development processes to achieve a self-sufficient supply base IATF 16949
  • Ensure Non IATF16949 suppliers deliver their certification qualification to the approved nomination plan
  • Ensure that allocated suppliers meet launch / delivery commitments
  • Provide supplier progress reporting to cross functional team for any open issues, PPAP part pedigree prior to each build phase and PPAP delivery forecast / actual confirmation
  • Track and manage PPAP part approval to agreed delivery plan
  • Manage part concessions and any follow-up resolution plans
  • Deliver Quality & Capacity Verification in line with MDP targets (where necessary)
  • Drive open issue resolution at suppliers
  • Develop improvement strategies with suppliers and ensure they are delivered
  • Present Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) status at program milestone events
    Knowledge, Skills and Experience
    • Significant level of expertise in Automotive OEM or supplier
    • Ability to read, understand and assess engineering drawings, CAD data and GD&T
    • Confident in working with suppliers and cross functional teams
    • Understanding of complete supply chain within MSO and its suppliers
    • Understand the manufacturing process within the McLaren Production Centre (MPC)
    • Ability to interrogate Programme plans and evaluate supplier’s ability to deliver, quality on time to meet company milestones
    • Must be capable of planning manufacture of their components at the supplier from end to end
    • Technical Engineering qualified to degree standard, or equivalent experience
    • Must have previous experience in SQA, including multiple new model launches
    • Experience of leading suppliers through new model launches
    • Have a working understanding of: PPAP, MSA, APQP, FMEA, SPC
    • Demonstrated structured approach to Problem Solving (8D)
    • Practical use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP and CATIA
