Motorsports Aerodynamics Designer

Job Description

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC (preferred), Warren, MI or Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum.

  

The Role 

We are seeking a Motorsports Aerodynamics Designer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team to test, develop, and optimize the aerodynamic performance of complete race vehicles. Your focus will be to develop highly refined aerodynamic surfaces for use in world-class CFD simulations as well as physical wind tunnel tests, supporting full car and subsystem models capable of detailed aerodynamic analysis. Your responsibilities will be to support advanced (concept) vehicle programs, high-performance production vehicles, and other motorsport series.

You will have the opportunity to showcase your surfacing, mechanical design, and CFD skills, contribute to innovation, connect lessons learned in racing to production vehicles, and work cross-functionally with our partners. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Create highly parametric surfaces for vehicle aerodynamics and thermal development

  • Convert existing CAD models into simplified, clean assemblies that are CFD-friendly and optimized for high-fidelity meshing

  • Design and develop mechanical parts for aerodynamics and thermal physical testing 

  • Collaborate with the global design studio on styling surface development

  • Coordinate the release, manufacturing, and assembly of test parts to ensure quality and timely delivery

  • Support the development of CFD automation processes

  • Manage multiple full car and subsystem assemblies within a CAD database

  • Develop and maintain processes to ensure thoroughness and consistency within a structured team environment

  • Participate in planning and conducting physical tests in wind tunnels, calorimeters, dynamometers, and other related facilities

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field

  • Demonstrated abilities in complex surface development

  • 5+ years of experience using 3D CAD software for vehicle exterior surface development preferably using Catia, NX, or Alias

  • Experience working in high-level motorsports or an automotive design studio environment

  • Strong ability to translate surface concepts from sketches or images into parametric models

  • Excellent communication skills to interact with stakeholders, prioritize tasks, and solve problems in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) 

  • Experience with sub-D surface modeling methods

  • Proficiency in using ANSA/Hypermesh for CAE geometry preparation

  • Demonstrated ability in automotive aesthetic design, supported by a portfolio

  • Experience leading or participating in physical testing in automotive wind tunnels

  • Programming experience with scripting for CFD process automation

  • Expertise in developing refined model meshes ready for CFD analysis
