Lead Powertrain Design Engineer (Heat Rejection)

Within the Engineering Office we have a new vacancy for Lead Powertrain Design Engineer focusing on the Heat Rejection system.

 

Lead Powertrain Design Engineer - The Role

Working in the Powertrain Team you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers with a specific focus on the Heat Rejection design and integration.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Working with Chief Designers & Head of Section to define technical requirements
  • Ownership of Detailed Design Specifications and Project Execution from cradle to grave, defining and supporting component or system validation, servicing and utilisation, supporting or resolving any issues as they arise
  • Liaise with other Design Sections, Departments across the business and external suppliers as required
  • Lead a group of Engineers to deliver to schedule, on budget and within constraints, escalating technical or resource conflicts that threaten agreed targets
  • Approve the work of reports as a fundamental part of design sign-off process
  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to; concept design and scheming components, detailing machined parts, patterns, moulds and specifying laminates, extending to the necessary component jigs and build tooling
  • Cascade information to your team owning the message and delivery
  • Non-technical one-to-one’s, making time develop all members of your team
  • Set clear expectations and ensure these are reviewed
  • Provide timely factual feedback to drive continuous improvement
  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to; concept design and scheming components, aiming to take a component or sub-system through the full design process for each car.

 

Lead Powertrain Design Engineer – The Person

We are looking for an individual who has extensive experience of working in a design role in motorsport, preferably in an F1 team. Excellent communication skills and a keen eye for detail are a must, alongside the ability to work under pressure. They must also possess the following:

  • A Mechanical Engineering Masters’ Degree or comparable qualification
  • Experience aerospace materials and manufacturing techniques
  • An understanding of implications of car performance when considering design criteria
  • Ability to approach design tasks by application of engineering first principles

Candidates must be self-motivated, capable of working with minimal supervision and delivering high quality designs to crucial deadlines.
