McLaren Racing’s entry in Extreme E and Formula E aims to accelerate McLaren Racing’s sustainability journey and reach a new, more diverse global audience and workforce. Based on the unique Bicester Heritage site, the Extreme E and Formula E teams combined are known as NEOM McLaren Electric Racing.

Purpose of the Role:
Using data analysis, simulation and modelling techniques, apply vehicle dynamics knowledge to improve overall performance on track.

Role Dimensions:

The role will be reporting into the Head of Vehicle Dynamics. It will involve significant collaboration with the wider Vehicle Dynamics group, particularly regarding simulation and the simulator, as well as collaboration with the Race Engineering group.

The role will involve supporting race events in real time from our facility in Bicester.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Propose, analyse, evaluate and develop vehicle setup options using modelling, simulation, and the simulator.
  • Propose, analyse, evaluate and develop vehicle control strategies using modelling, simulation, and the simulator.
  • Develop tools and techniques to improve analysis of data from track, simulator and simulations.
  • Support activities of Race and Performance Engineers during races, track tests and simulator tests.

Progression

Progression towards the role of Senior Associate, Vehicle Dynamics Engineer will take place during the normal working practice of the role of Graduate, Vehicle Dynamics Engineer.

The main items of progression will include:

  • Demonstrating substantial knowledge in the field of vehicle dynamics.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply Vehicle Dynamics knowledge to enhance on track performance.
  • Contributing to the goals of the team, by contributing to or leading smaller projects/workstreams that directly impact the goals, in multiple areas.

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential

  • Outstanding academic background with a BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and understanding of racing car vehicle dynamics.
  • Familiarity with the one or more of the following coding languages: Python, Matlab.
  • Ability to work to deadlines on a variety of timescales and balance your workload between different projects.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical information.
  • Strong analytical skills underpinned by a data driven approach.

NEOM McLaren Electric Racing is based at the Bicester Heritage site on the edge of Bicester.
