Role Dimensions:

McLaren Racing’s sustainability mission is to set the standard for high sustainability performance. This role will help with the delivery of McLaren Racing’s environmental sustainability focus areas that include achieving net-zero by 2040 in line with the latest science, and progressing towards a circular economy, including researching and developing a Circular F1 Car.

This role focuses on supporting the foundational activities of our environmental strategy. We take a science-based and data-led approach to assessing and managing our environmental impact. Our work on sustainability touches all areas of McLaren Racing, from the factory floor, to trackside, to corporate. Based in Woking at the McLaren Technology Centre, there may be some flexibility with working hours to fulfil this role effectively.

Principal Accountabilities:

You'll be a key member of the Sustainability team, supporting a wide range of activities, including but not limited to:

Sustainability data and insights:

  • Supporting the Sustainability team in delivering high-quality data and actionable insights.
  • Liaising with individuals around McLaren Racing to identify & collect environmental data.
  • Working with data for McLaren Racing’s GHG footprint: cleaning, aggregating, formatting, analysing and visualising.
  • Designing new data collection methods including surveys and APIs.
  • Supporting process automation for data processes, particularly GHG emissions calculation, learning and using digital tools (e.g. Alteryx).
  • Supporting Sustainability audit and assurance.
  • Documenting new data processes for internal and external review.
  • Drafting responses to queries relating to sustainability data.


Broader Sustainability projects;

  • Contribute to projects in other sustainability disciplines, particularly leveraging data insights to assess impacts of projects.
  • Areas of focus in the wider Sustainability programme include circular economy, supply chain, logistics and F1 operations..

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experiences 

Essential:

  • Keen interest in environmental sustainability and appetite to pick up technical knowledge at a fast pace.
  • Experience working with large, complex data sets.
  • Proficiency with data management and analysis software, at minimum Excel
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, to support liaising with data owners around McLaren.
  • Clear communication skills, ability to explain complex qualitative information to non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Foundational knowledge of environmental topics, particularly climate science.
  • Knowledge of environmental assessment and management techniques, e.g. carbon accounting, life cycle assessment.
  • Proficiency with more advanced data manipulation and analysis tools, e.g. Alteryx, Google BigQuery, Power BI, AI tools.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren
Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking. Here at McLaren, we offer hybrid working
with 3 days a week based in the MTC.

areas, as well as direct access to park and common land. The MTC is connected
to Woking mainline station via regular shuttle buses, from which London
Waterloo is a 30 minute train ride.
