Senior combustion system performance engineer

The role

We are looking for an experienced combustion system engineer to join our expanding thermodynamics performance department.

 

In this role you will be responsible for developing aero combustion systems for the Alpine Racing power-units especially to propose new aero surfaces for :

  • Cylinder head
  • Intake and exhaust port
  • Ignition system
  • Spray pattern and injection optimization

 

On top of being far up the development chain, this role offers a cross-functional position in the organization that allows interaction with a large part of the company from conceptual idea to testing and implementation on the race car. The performance combustion engineer will develop new ideas and concept though CFD. Once a concept is developed internally, he/she will do the followup of the industrialisation process with the office design and after he/she will create test request as well as beeing deeply involved in the dyno data post processing and the choice of the race specs after the tests are conducted.

Responsibilities will also involve:

  • Simulation technical reports
  • Technical specification recommendations for test engines and dyno run plan.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following essentials :

  • Relevant degree (engineering /Msc)
  • Knowledge of Formula one engine systems.
  • Solid background in thermodynamics applied to the Internal Combustion Engine.
  • Multi-year experience in developing a fuel flow limited motorsport engine.
  • Excellent working knowledge of CFD in general and combustion modeling with converge in particular.
  • Tenacious, can-do attitude
  • Creating a positive profile for themselves and the department.
  • Highly motivated to imagine, develop, share ideas and demonstrate initiatives.
  • Ability to manage workload and deliver to agreed timeframes.
  • Able to understand data and incorporate insightfully.

Other advantageous features:

  • Previous Formula one experience as a combustion/CFD engineer is highly appreciated.
  • French speaking skills highly appreciated or willing to learn.
  • Previous experience with CAD software (Catia V5 / 3Dexperience).
