What to Expect

To lead the Concepts and EE Architecture strategy, Electrical Systems design & Electrical Feature Pipeline across all vehicle projects (Sport, Super and Ultimate lines). This extends to defining and deploying McLarens Software Define Vehicle strategy.

This role works closely with the other “Heads of” Electrical Systems and Controls team and across the business to deliver high quality features that meet customer expectations.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a focused and excellent team of advanced concept engineers to define and specify spirit of McLaren customer focused features and user experiences. Collaborating with external partners where appropriate.
  • Develop and deploy the companies Software Defined Vehicle and mobile applications strategy. Working in close collaboration with manufacturing, IT and Marketing teams.
  • Drive a design-led approach to systems engineering, with appropriate analysis conducted to define system behaviour, derive functional requirements & evaluate alternative system design concepts.
  • Set the strategy for Functional Safety and Cyber Security across all vehicle projects & ensure requirements are baked into the Architecture design.
  • Ensure the delivery of Diagnostics packages across all modules to support on-board and off-board diagnostics.
  • Deliver high quality system design specifications & ECU extracts for all the vehicle projects in accordance with the McLaren Development Process and the ISO26262 requirements.
  • Lead the optimisation of EE Architecture related processes.
  • Define the budget for all EE Architecture activities, in collaboration with all the project Vehicle Line Managers and Program Management Office.
  • Define the required EE Architecture organisation & internal / external strategy to support all projects. Select suitable external engineering partners & manage their delivery to achieve project milestones.
  • Monitor the future trends for electrical architecture & design methodologies / tools. Own the McLaren technical roadmap for electrical architecture.
  • Lead the development of the Electrical Systems technical and roadmaps.
  • Work closely with attribute and HMI teams to enable the user experience roadmaps.
  • Develop the team member’s skills and experience, encouraging job rotations and exposure to all the activities/workplaces, and managing the multi-site requirements (e.g., Idiada/Woking).
  • Responsible for the companies Cyber Security processes and vehicle system designed in defences.
  • Lead a team of 28 – 30 people and be responsible for the individual develop of this team, aligned to business objectives.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience of managing a large team.
  • Successful delivery of several complex whole vehicle projects.
  • Able to confidently manage project execution & risk.
  • Automotive market trends knowledge.
  • Experience of business model development (e.g. make or buy).
  • Experience of Key technical/legislative topics including UNECE R155/R156 and ISO 26262.

Essential Functional / Technical Skills

Experience of system definition, system architecture development, requirements specification, design/performance modelling, systems integration, system assessment and acceptance.

  • Automotive engineering experience in EE architecture network design, with good knowledge of the LIN, CAN, CAN FD & Ethernet standards.
  • Experience working with AUTOSAR standards, & developing products in line with Functional Safety and Cybersecurity standards
  • Experience of Diagnostics standards & methods
  • Technical leadership skills - recognised by a wide development team as the reference point for any complex cross-functional issues.
  • Degree in an Electrical or Electronics engineering, 2:1 or above.
