Lead CFD Process Engineer

CFD forms a critical component in the design of our Formula 1 car.  Ensuring that we maximise on our CFD capabilities and deliver effective CFD workflows puts performance on the car.  We have an exciting opportunity to lead the development of our next generation CFD workflows and processes to help us make the next step.

As a Lead Engineer, you will take ownership of the CFD workflow and lead a group of engineers to deliver our next generation CFD process.  You will work closely with stakeholders across the Aerodynamics Department, Correlation, and Methodology teams to understand the requirements and opportunities that exist.  With the Head of CFD and other Senior Engineers you will contribute to the strategy and roadmaps for the CFD process and align projects with defined goals.  You will be familiar with Agile working practices and apply these to your day-to-day role and group management.  The role would suit someone with a strong background in CFD methodology and Software Development that has a proven track record of delivering CFD workflows and technical management.

Key Responsibilities include but won't be limited to:

  • Leads a team of engineers to develop the overall architecture for an optimised end-to-end CFD process.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders across aerodynamic development, CFD correlation, and CFD methodology to understand work-flow requirements and opportunities to maximise efficiency and knowledge extraction.
  • Works with hardware, software, process, and IT engineers to develop technical solutions for the CFD workflow using latest technologies integrated into the wider digital workspace.
  • Works closely with the Head of CFD and other key senior leadership to define longer-term strategies for the CFD pipeline and toolkits.

Our ideal candidate is someone who has:

  • A strong background in CFD methodology and Software Development.
  • Previous leadership experience in a technical environment, with F1 being highly preferable.
  • A minimum of 7 years technical experience in an industrial role.
  • Proven track record in delivering solutions across an entire CFD workflow.
  • Application experience in OpenFOAM and ParaView.
  • Experience with Linux systems and services, HPC.
  • Coding experience using Python, C#, and Linux shell scripting.
  • Familiar with software best practices, containerisation, micro-services.
  • Experience in Agile working environments, CI/CD and PRs, ideally using Azure DevOps.
  • Experience of Agile working practice, preferably the scrum framework.
