Background:
Led by racing legend Michael Andretti, the team fields multiple entries in INDYCAR, INDY NXT, IMSA and Formula E. The global racing enterprise boasts over 250 race wins, four INDYCAR Series championships, five INDY NXT titles, one Indy Pro 2000 and one USF2000 championship, and has captured victory five times at the famed Indianapolis 500-Mile Race. The team is now looking to expand into the pinnacle of motorsport through our Andretti Cadillac Team. 

Job description:
We have an opportunity for a Head of Aero Design to join the Andretti Cadillac Team at the new Silverstone Facility. In this role you will be responsible for the management and coordination of all design functions related to the aerodynamic development of the team’s race cars: including design of the team’s 60% scale wind tunnel model, conceptual surface design for computation studies, and the collaboration with the race car design group. Principal Accountabilities:

  • Lead and coordinate all design groups within the Aerodynamics department (Surface/Model/Mechanical).
  • Identify and develop processes, procedures, and methods to support all design initiatives, ensuring innovative and efficient solutions.
  • Ensure design methods are appropriate and coordinated for all aerodynamic development functions: computational and experimental testing, and subsequent full size race car part designs.
  • Support the design groups to ensure the delivered designs meet overall performance and delivery targets.
  • Close collaboration with the race car design group to support the optimisation of processes, to ensure efficient and rapid realisation of race car aerodynamic upgrades to the track.
  • Ensure any design faults/issues are resolved efficiently and timely.
  • Evaluate, implement, develop, and maintain improved methods of working; and ensure standard design practices are adhered to.
  • Provide guidance and support to designers within the groups, fostering professional growth and ensuring high quality work.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in a similar role within the motorsport industry.
  • Extensive experience of 3D CAD software, supporting aerodynamic design (preferably 3DExperience/CATIA).  
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of part quality, model layout and robustness.
  • Possess a high level of understanding of parametric modelling techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques including composite manufacture and advanced digital manufacture.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of GD&T and its application.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Able to perform duties in a timely manner with minimal errors.
  • Ability to line manage / lead teams effectively.
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders/directors.
  • Clear and concise communication.
  • Strong levels of IT skills including MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Positively contribute to an open and inclusive culture.
