What to Expect
We are recruiting for a Senior Clay Modeller to join our fantastic Design Department in Woking. As the Senior Clay Modeller you will translate 2D themes into breath-taking physical properties “that tell the visual story of their function”. You will also create concept & production ready surface solutions compatible with concurrent engineering exercises to the McLaren Design Process (MDP) & program timing.
What You'll Do
- Leading a given zone on exterior or interior model to deliver the design vision/strategy.
- Contributing to the Planning workloads as required.
- Producing high impact physical content for senior presentations and weekly design reviews.
- Working within the wider CMD, CAS, Clay & Engineering teams; to present feasible design solutions to Function Group representatives and Senior Management for sign-off.
- Reconciling design intent, quality & manufacturing feasibility with aerodynamics, engineering and commercial requirements.
- Communicating progress and critical issues to the Functional Manager
- Attending Design & CAS reviews as required and action next steps.
- Supporting with cutter path programming for all model making activities.
- Offering input into the creation and update of design standards & process.
- Maintaining a tidy work space.
- Allocating secondary tasks to team members, such as preparing review content.
- Be a role model, live the values and communicate the design pillars to other departments.
What You'll Bring
- Education in a design, modelling or pattern making background preferred.
- Good verbal & written presentation skills.
- Strong physical modelling and surface design skills (hard modelling and clay).
- Good knowledge of Work NC (milling, cutter paths).
- PC literate. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Experience on full size and scale clay properties. Led an exterior or interior G0-G4.
- Good understanding of ergonomics, aerodynamic principles & legal requirements.
