Pit Garage & Equipment Manager

The Pit Equipment Manager is responsible for the forecasting of equipment needs, allocation, procurement and receipt, maintenance, repair, replacement, and proper handling and storage of all equipment assets. In addition, this position is responsible for pit practice preparation and management of the pit technicians. The candidate will be mechanically inclined and responsible for overseeing and assisting with pit practice set-up, maintaining the pit vehicles, cleaning and maintenance of the pit surface.

Responsible for the supervision and development of garage technicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for management of pit technicians and overseeing pit practice set-up, which includes wheel and tire cleaning, prep, lug nut gluing, impact gun nitrogen, hose and regulator set-up, and cleaning and pit surface maintenance.
  • Manage, coordinate, and oversee installation needs, repair, overhaul, adjustments, setups, and disassembly of pit practice vehicles.
  • Oversee the distribution, maintenance, inventory, and storage of practice and race related equipment.
  • Oversee the preparation and management of practice and race wheels.
  • Track and maintain accurate equipment inventory records for all available and issued equipment.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and replacement of equipment.
  • Responsible for overseeing the maintenance and replacement of practice and race jacks.
  • Oversee pit box maintenance throughout the season and manage offseason pit box updates and needs.
  • Coordinate all equipment preparation and set-up for pit practice and race events.
  • Plan, manage, and forecast accurate equipment budget.
  • Maintain and organize equipment storage.
  • Responsible for being up-to-date and knowledgeable of all safety standards and compliance related to pit equipment.
  • Prepare end-of-season inventory analysis and facilitate the return of issued equipment.
  • Build, foster, and maintain positive relationships with equipment vendors and internal suppliers.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
  • Ability to assist with race day track needs remotely from the shop offices.

Desired Education: Bachelor's degree

Desired Work Experience: 3 - 5 years

Education/Experience: Extensive experience related to pit athletic equipment and supplies is required. Knowledge and experience with inventory control and equipment tracking is preferred. Must have strong understanding of mechanical components on car systems. Should own and be able to utilize personal tools and equipment. Requires knowledge of measuring tools and calipers. One year of travel experience is preferred.

Certificates and Licenses: Valid Driver's License. CPR and First Aid certified.

Computer Skills: Basic computer skills needed. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products.

Communication Skills: Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to

communicate effectively with customers and company personnel. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact well with others is required. Must be a team player, have an ability to inspire others, and have a high level of integrity.

Attendance Expectations: The position requires regular and predictable attendance. Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands: Requires vision (near, distance, and depth) and sense of touch. Constantly lifts/carries up to 50 pounds and pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds. Frequently stands, walks, manually manipulates, reaches outward, reaches above shoulder, squats or kneels, bends, lifts/carries up to 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 40 pounds. Occasionally sits, climbs, crawls, lifts/carries over 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 100 pounds.

Environment Demands: This position frequently works outside in various weather conditions.

Verbal and Writing Ability: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees.

Math Ability: Basic math skills are required.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations. Outstanding ability to execute and implement is required in this position. Ability to plan ahead and demonstrated problem-solving skills are necessary.
