Assistant Pit Coach

The assistant pit coach assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating pit crew practices, strategies, and preparation for race day competition. Assists with weekly coaching, film review, and player meetings. The pit coach works to ensure a high level of training is achieved covering all aspects of performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Attend weekly medical meetings with medical staff to create any athlete specific practice plans for the week.
  • Evaluate practice plan with staff.
  • Create weekly Cup, Xfinity, and Truck Rosters with coaching staff.
  • Execute HMS and Backup Cup practice plans with Head Coach.
  • Grade weekly HMS and Backup Cup team performances with coaching staff.
  • Evaluate race performances with coaching staff.
  • Attend weekly film review meeting with Crew Chief and teams and provide feedback.
  • Create and implement individual and team improvement plans.
    • Analyze statistical data with the focus on improving individual and team times.
  • Troubleshoot any/all travel disruptions while on the road such as vehicle or hotel issues.
  • Assist teams in Pit Box setup and needs during the process.
  • Attend final pit crew review of the car and discuss the approach to successfully service the car for that particular race setup.
  • Evaluate live race day performance using the review system on the pit box with pit crew and road crew members as well as crew chiefs.
  • Assist in a behind the wall duty when needed for all cars.
  • Attend HMS pre-race team meetings when needed.
  • Provide feedback to staff members not at the track regarding performance or needs.
  • Assist with any equipment needs or failures throughout the race for all HMS and backup teams.

Certificates and Licenses: CPR and First Aid preferred

Computer Skills: Basic computer skills. Sports video editing systems such as DVSport

Education/Experience:

Bachelor degree preferred. 4 plus years of experience. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact well with others is required. Outstanding ability to execute and implement is required in this position. Ability to plan ahead and demonstrated problem solving skills are necessary. Must be a team player, have an ability to inspire others, and have a high level of integrity. Extensive knowledge in nutrition, coaching and physical training. Must possess the ability to work a flexible schedule and travel as needed.

Communication Skills:

Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and company personnel.

Attendance Expectations:

The position requires regular and predictable attendance. Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands:

Requires vision (near, distance, and depth) and sense of touch. Constantly lifts/carries up to 50 pounds and pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds. Frequently stands, walks, manually manipulates, reaches outward, reaches above shoulder, squats or kneels, bends, lifts/carries up to 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 40 pounds. Occasionally sits, climbs, crawls, lifts/carries over 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 100 pounds.

Environment Demands:

Works indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Verbal and Writing Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations.
