Job Title: Aerodynamics Design Industrial Placement Reports To: Head of Model Design Department: Model Design About the Department: The Aerodynamics Department plays a critical role in developing innovative solutions that enhance the performance of our Formula 1 car. Our team of skilled engineers and designers works tirelessly to refine the car's aerodynamics, directly influencing its speed and handling on the track. Role Overview: As an Aerodynamic Design Industrial Placement student, you will be an integral part of our Model Design team. In this critical role, you’ll use our 3D CAD system to transform wetted surfaces provided by Aerodynamicists into physical parts for our Wind Tunnel model, utilizing a variety of advanced manufacturing processes. This role offers a rare opportunity to be involved in the world of Formula 1 from an early stage in your career. The chance to work alongside some of the most talented engineers in the industry, and to contribute to the development of a car that will compete on the world stage, is incredibly exciting. It's a role that promises both professional growth and the thrill of being part of a high-performance team. Your Responsibilities: As a Aerodynamic Design Industrial Placement at Williams, you will: • Using a high-end CAD package, the Aerodynamics Design Engineer will be designing parts to test in our 60% wind tunnel model, delivering results and tasks within tight timelines and to a high standard. • Ensuring that standard design practices are adhered to for all project released within the Aerodynamics department. • Working with other members of the department to plan and release parts for manufacture using a wide range of manufacturing techniques. • Proactively drive collaboration with other departments to build positive relationships that support a culture of high performance and innovative practices. • Being proactive in providing support to others to ensuring efficient testing of parts in the wind tunnel. • Collate and report back on project updates and key performance metrics within the Design team. Preferred Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will possess the following: • Proficient in the use of a 3D CAD package, as well as a clear understanding of engineering design. • Strong problem-solving ability, effective communication skills, attention to detail, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. • Strong background in mechanical or automotive engineering • Solid understanding of a high-end CAD package • Motorsport experience through internships or personal projects (highly desirable) • Proactive problem-solving skills • Good attention to detail • Be able to work under pressure with minimal supervision • Excellent communication abilities
