Associate Vehicle Development Engineer

What to Expect

Junior engineering team member within the Vehicle Development department assisting in planning and execution of vehicle level test and development activities. Regular travel to off-site test facilities and out of hours activity required in support of development attributes sign-off and reporting back to the business at a program level.

What You'll Do

  • To take responsibility for specifying, preparing, monitoring, analysing and reporting of activities related to the build, test, development and validation of vehicle development and attribute systems
  • To work closely with the Development and Prototype build teams to ensure that vehicles are built to the required standard and suitable for the planned development/attribute testing
  • To prepare short-term test plans and support resource/spares required to execute activities
  • To represent the program development team within departmental meetings as required
  • To follow the McLaren Development Process (MDP) ensuring that all activity is correctly documented and appropriate standards and processes are followed.

What You'll Bring

  • Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic or Automotive Engineering Degree 2:1 or above
  • Ability to apply detailed technical knowledge to the understanding of new technologies, development of engineering designs and resolution of engineering problems
  • Experience of vehicle embedded systems would be beneficial, notably:
    • Communication protocols (CAN, LIN etc.)
    • Diagnostics implementation and validation
    • Software architecture, ideally including use of the VECTOR tool chain.
    • Vehicle data logging, calibration and data analysis using INCA, Vector CANAPE or similar.
    • Vehicle powertrain and/or power-electrical simulations, particularly driveline, emissions and performance-analysis simulations (ideally in Matlab / Simulink)
  • Must be proficient with all common Microsoft Office applications including Project
