Student internship in the area of whole vehicle simulation

OUR TEAM

Do you want to help us bring Audi to Formula 1? You can… with an internship or final thesis at Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg an der Donau. Join us as we develop the power unit that will drive our racing cars from 2026. 
 
Our internships and final theses take at least four months and take place full-time on site in Neuburg. In addition to unique insights into the world of motorsport, we offer fair pay and make you part of the team that brings Audi to the pinnacle of motorsports. Audi Formula Racing GmbH is a subsidiary of Audi Sport and was founded in 2022 for the brand's Formula 1 entry. A team of experts who are passionate about developing the power unit will train and support you. 
 
Our positions are currently scheduled to start in September or October 2024, and to apply we need your current CV, relevant certificates, a certificate of enrollment and, if applicable, the examination regulations from your university as well as a current, official grade abstract. Important to know: Applicants from the EU require a valid identity card/passport; applicants from non-EU countries require a residence permit and, if necessary, a work permit. 
 
Please note that our final theses are always subject to a confidentiality note and, if necessary, a non-disclosure agreement must also be concluded with the university supervisor.

As part of our team, you will work on the further development of whole vehicle simulation and energy strategy optimization to assist with designing the drive components so that they are optimized for performance. Our focus is on innovative, sustainable, highly integrative, and clever solutions for optimizing energy efficiency on the one hand and performance on the other hand.

YOUR MISSION

  • Assisting with the further development of our whole vehicle simulation for the purpose of optimizing lap time performance
  • Carrying out performance analyses and sensitivity/parameter studies with a focus on the impact of the powertrain on lap time performance
  • Managing and carrying out plausibility checks for simulation parameter data 
  • Analyzing existing models with regard to model quality, computing time, and robustness 
  • Participating in driver-in-the-loop (DiL) sessions and assisting with their preparation/follow-up
  • Independent collaboration with colleagues from Vehicle and Powertrain Development to assist with system design and testing

YOUR PROFILE

  • You are pursuing a degree in general mechanical engineering, vehicle technology, or similar
  • Good specialist knowledge in the areas of driving dynamics and drive systems
  • Preferably some experience with Matlab programming 
  • Initial experience with Simulink is desirable
  • You enjoy working in an international team
  • You enjoy working with a distinct hands-on mentality
  • Full professional proficiency in German or English and a willingness to attain a basic level in the corresponding other language are prerequisites
