Purpose of the Role:

We are looking for an Infrastructure & Facilities Design Project Engineer to join our team in delivering key infrastructure and facility changes and upgrades in support of our business stakeholders. In this role, you will be responsible for creating the project design, cost plan and works programme, ensuring that the projects are completed on time, within budget, to the required quality standards and ultimately achieve the brief received from our stakeholders. You will also be expected to coordinate with industry professionals, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure that the projects meet all requirements, specifications and regulations.


Role Dimensions:

Working closely with our PMO Team, Group Facility Management Team and wider Business Performance Team and key stakeholders to, design, scope and deliver Infrastructure and facilities projects, improvements, and upgrades for McLaren Racing across all functions and sites.

Working across various levels of projects, via our Change Request process to deliver facility changes and new developments across our building portfolio. You will manage the project design process in its entirety, from initially liaising with our stakeholders through to physical completion and handover. This is effectively managing projects across all RIBA Stages of Work, with the opportunity to remain involved as a reference point to the wider team during ongoing use, ie, all the way through from RIBA 0 to 7.

Project delivery will be via scheduling and coordination of our in-house team of specialist technicians or external contractors or a combination of both. This will require the skills to not only manage external contractors for CDM compliance, but also to produce the necessary designs and documentation to ensure company compliance for undertaking Principal Designer and Principal Contractor duties.

The candidate must be able to demonstrate strong problem solving and create solutions, with consideration of building standards, operational requirements, cost and programme. Technical knowledge is required to ensure all designs are produced to comply with the relevant standards and regulations. A background in Building Services engineering would be ideal, with an understanding of other construction work elements.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Liaise with Stakeholders to determine project briefs.
  • Develop suitable outline designs with cost estimates for high level approval.
  • Produce drawings and scopes of work.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resources.
  • Coordinate with industry professionals, engineers, and contractors to ensure project success.
  • Produce and/or approve project plans, specifications, and contracts.
  • Maintain and update all As Built records and O&M information.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, Building Regulations, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
  • Monitor project progress and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Communicate project status to stakeholders and senior management.
  • Manage project risks and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide technical support to project team members.
  • Ensure quality control and quality assurance for all project deliverables.
  • Lead design project meetings and facilitate communication among team members.

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • HNC / HND in building services or similar construction or engineering field.
  • Extensive experience in construction project management.
  • Background in Building Services engineering preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar in the design and production of CAD drawings.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • MS Office suite knowledge essential.
  • Experience in managing multiple small works and Capital Projects.
  • Ability to produce, read and interpret building plans & schematics.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial management.
  • Experience in managing and supervising construction teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proactive, self motivated, adaptable and calm under pressure.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren
Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking. Here at McLaren, we offer hybrid working
with 3 days a week based in the MTC.
