Purpose of the Role:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Occupational Health Nurse to join our new McLaren Performance Hub (MPH) team. Based at the McLaren Performance Hub at the McLaren Technology Centre, the successful candidate will provide a high-quality Occupational Health Service to the entire Racing Team.

The aim of McLaren’s new MPH is to drive performance by elevating the health and wellbeing of the entire Racing Team. We are designing and equipping a best-in-class facility which includes an on-site medical centre and gym to support our quest in becoming a World Championship winning team.

As the McLaren Performance Hub Occupation Health Nurse, you will provide competent, comprehensive and specialist advice to service users, providing a high standard of Occupation Health advice to HR Managers and employees, including assessment, advice/education, and management plans.

We are open to considering either full time or part time hours for this position


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Development of a high standard Occupational Health Service, enabling new starter screening, health surveillance, immunisations, annual wellness screening, race team screening, executive screening, blood tests, all annual employee wellness screening .
  • Management of surveillance screening escalation pathway.
  • Contributing to the health and wellbeing of all employees and working with the MPH team to design and deliver health promotion activities.
  • Promoting high standards of health and safety amongst employees in line with current legislation.
  • Assessment and reduction of clinical hazard and risk in the workplace.
  • Collaborating with MSK and mental health team for both reactive and preventive wellness intervention programs.
  • Comprehensive assessments of employees including those with diverse or complex presentations; use clinical reasoning skills.
  • Being professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work.
  • Developing comprehensive client centred objectives and plans for employees referred to the occupational health service.
  • Assessing employee’s fitness for work following long term sickness absence, frequent short-term sickness absence, or where the employee is experiencing health or disability issues impacting upon them at work.
  • Providing clear impartial advice to both managers and employees to optimise health at work, reduce sickness absence and prevent work related ill health and injury. Offer advice on fitness for work, return to work plans, workplace adjustments and ill-health retirement.
  • Maintaining confidential, clear and accurate records stored in accordance with the General Data Protection Act Regulations.
  • Identifying specific and general ergonomic issues and present solutions to the problems.
  • Advising on safe systems of work, personal protective equipment, environment safety and employee health surveillance.
  • Co-ordinating appropriate clinical interventions and follow-up monitoring reviews relating to blood borne virus exposure and suspected occupational dermatitis.
  • Supporting development and review of policies, procedures and standards with reference to clinical practice.
  • Developing, monitoring and auditing clinical and non-clinical performance standards, and activity reporting.
  • Supporting development of the Occupational Health Service within the MPH.

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Occupational Health Specialist Nurse (Degree level/Diploma level or equivalent).
  • Proven track record of operational service management in health setting at a senior level including staff and change management.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development. 
  • Expert clinical skills & experience as an OH specialist practitioner including: Health surveillance and health protection programmes.
  • Knowledge of potential workplace hazards, safe systems of work and health surveillance.
  • Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.
