Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Wind Tunnel Methodology Engineer to join our dynamic Aero Test Facilities team. The successful candidate will work in the methodology group who are responsible for implementing Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) experiments and corresponding data analysis tools in our wind tunnel facilities. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to our aerodynamic research and development projects in our state-of-the-art facilities and play a part in the continuous improvement of our testing methodologies to ensure the highest quality experiments and enhance our on track performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain PIV data acquisition systems, including hardware and software components.
  • Analyse PIV data to ensure the highest-quality results.
  • Collaborate with Aerodynamicists to tailor the PIV system to ensure maximum insight and knowledge is extracted and utilised.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize PIV setups to ensure accurate and reliable measurements.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in PIV technology and methodologies.
  • Develop future solutions and improvements.
  • Contribute towards wind tunnel testing methodologies to ensure high-quality data acquisition.

Core Skills and Experience:

Core skills that would be required for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an Engineering or Science related field.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in a PIV-related subject would be beneficial.
  • Proven experience with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) systems and techniques.
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics and aerodynamic principles.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar scripting language is beneficial.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative and respond quickly and effectively to problems, while working under pressure.
  • Flexible approach to working hours.
  • Appreciation of confidentiality within an F1 environment.
