Vehicle Line Quality Director

What to Expect

We are recruiting for a Vehicle Line Quality Director to join our senior leadership role leading the Vehicle Line Quality Team in ensuring that any McLaren Automotive product is capable to meet the agreed Quality deliverables at the point of launch and continuously improves/responds to emerging issues through the entire life of the vehicle to meet an agreed set of Quality and financial targets.

What You'll Do

  • Setting targets on selected prioritised metrics and drive all the required functional areas and resources to ensure these targets are met, setting clear direction using a prioritised list of issues.
  • Collating, allocating, managing, prioritising, escalating all issues identified as affecting vehicle Quality.
  • Working alongside Quality Programme Leads to manage the control of new vehicles through the agreed launch control processes, ensuring that a vehicle is capable of achieving quality and delivery target requirements prior to ramp up, with no negative impact experienced by our customers.
  • Working alongside the Programme Series Lead as well as Manufacturing leaders in the production environment to ensure that the products being manufactured conform to the specifications and requirements set out in the Vehicle Quality Standards.
  • Development of a warranty system that can identify and predict emerging issues for a fast and accurate response.
  • Responsibility for vehicle quality and financial performance across a wide variety of issues that need to be identified, understood, controlled and improved.
  • Identifying and controlling significant issues critical to Quality and safety, resulting in a business campaign response up to and including Safety Recall.
  • Management of Critical Concerns that occur from time to time in the field relating to Crash, Fire and Significant Vehicle Failure.
  • Overall responsibility for the assigning and progression of all QCR’s in the fault management system relating to “series build”, up to and including escalation meetings resulting in agreed company support.
  • Overall responsibility for the management of warranty accrual and spend.
  • Financial responsibility for the calculation of vehicle warranty accrual and the related financial performance.
  • Budget responsibility for the financial warranty predictions over the whole vehicle life, resulting in business plan impact to EBITDA/cash.
  • Leading, mentoring and motivating the wider team in achieving more through a collaborative working environment using the influence of being an experienced leader.

What You'll Bring

  • Experienced Quality professional from the automotive industry, demonstrated by minimum 15 years at leadership level involvement in Vehicle Quality and Warranty.
  • Educational qualifications are required at degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering subject.
  • Working knowledge of Automotive Development and Manufacturing Quality, being able to demonstrate experience in both Launch and Series Quality management.
  • Experience of leading effective product risk management and containment measures.
  • Understanding of Vehicle Engineering from a Quality, Plant or Engineering environment, enabling effective knowledgeable communication with each area to understand and create supported improvement.
  • A comprehensive understanding of quality management principles, regulatory compliance, and the ability to drive continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and standards to ensure the organisation's compliance with legal and quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of change management principles to facilitate the implementation of new quality initiatives and processes.
  • Knowledge of effective leadership and management practices to lead and develop a high-performing Quality team.
  • Experience of developing and delivering a strategic Quality vision.
