Student internship in the area of HV battery design and simulation

Our Team

Do you want to help us bring Audi to Formula 1? You can… with an internship or final thesis at Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg an der Donau. Join us as we develop the power unit that will drive our racing cars from 2026. 
 
Our internships and final theses take at least four months and take place full-time on site in Neuburg. In addition to unique insights into the world of motorsport, we offer fair pay and make you part of the team that brings Audi to the pinnacle of motorsports. Audi Formula Racing GmbH is a subsidiary of Audi Sport and was founded in 2022 for the brand's Formula 1 entry. A team of experts who are passionate about developing the power unit will train and support you. 
 
Our positions are currently scheduled to start in September or October 2024, and to apply we need your current CV, relevant certificates, a certificate of enrollment and, if applicable, the examination regulations from your university as well as a current, official grade abstract. Important to know: Applicants from the EU require a valid identity card/passport; applicants from non-EU countries require a residence permit and, if necessary, a work permit. 
 
Please note that our final theses are always subject to a confidentiality note and, if necessary, a non-disclosure agreement must also be concluded with the university supervisor.
 
In the field of energy storage development, you will work on the key component of electric high-performance drive systems and play your part in ensuring we are able to succeed in a highly competitive environment. You will be involved in the requirements management, methods development, and all the way to the detailed design (simulation and/or construction) for HV battery concepts, HV electronics, and battery cells.

Your Mission

  • Concept development, design, and properties simulation of HV storage systems
  • Development of battery models for predicting thermal and electrical properties using Simulink
  • Simulation validation with measurement data
  • Methods and workflow development

Your Profile

  • Completed basic studies in electrical engineering,control engineering, mechatronics, computer science, or a similar course of studies
  • Experience in HV storage design and simulation (cell and full battery)
  • Some IT skills with Matlab 
  • Strong implementation skills and a high level of motivation and personal initiative
  • Excellent team skills
  • Targeted, independent, and structured working practices
  • Full professional proficiency in German or English and a willingness to attain a basic level in the corresponding other language are prerequisites
