Strategic Technologist

The people who work off-track are as important to Formula 1 as those behind the wheel. As a Strategic Technologist, driving impactful change through technology, you could be one of them!

The role of Strategic Technologist is to understand technologies and technology trends, aligning and connecting them with organisational needs through, for example, leading workshops and discovery sessions, in order to recommend and drive valuable technical innovation across all aspects of the operation.

Reporting into the Director of Strategic Technical Ventures, you will:

Strategic

  • Identify and understand medium and long-term technology trends
  • Stay abreast and maintain a good level of understanding and detail of new technologies
  • Define, collect, and provide technical information to achieve good business outcomes
  • Work in partnership with the F1 commercial team to provide technical input into developing partnerships and new growth initiatives
  • Be proactive and self-sufficient in supporting the cultivation of relationships with prospective organisations, and internal and external stakeholders

Partners

  • Defining key technical partners that could be of interest in supporting the goals of the F1 technical strategy
  • Work collaboratively across the organisation to ensure proposals and solutions are in sync with technical direction and demands of F1
  • Proactively manage the technical aspects of new initiatives, ensuring we are getting the most value from our technical partners and delivering value to F1
  • Support the Director of Strategic Technical Ventures to ensure solutions are driven by suppliers and partners in line with F1 strategy
  • Support supplier selection and feed directly into the technical elements of RFIs/RFPs

Skills

  • Strong technical background in one or more of the following: system engineering, electronics engineering, software engineering, digital, broadcast and media, IT (this is more about the technical approach than being an expert in all areas)
  • Pragmatic, understanding delivery and operational needs and constraints when considering technologies
  • Drive technical meetings with business owners and technical specialists from F1 and external companies
  • Excellent communication, report writing and presentation design – technical and/or business focus as required

Specification Essentials

  • Honours degree in engineering or related technical discipline
  • Experience of working within a technical environment, including delivery utilising a wide range of technologies and platforms
  • Good breadth and depth of engineering knowledge to allow sound technical proposals and guidance across multiple disciplines
  • Experience with the design and development of solutions from concept through to testing and deployment
  • Experience of company representation in a professional setting e.g. at conferences or working groups
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Great planning skills, including the ability to prioritise and multi-task effectively
