Packaging Manager

What to Expect

We are recruiting for a Packaging Manager to join our fantastic Logistics Department in Woking. As the Packaging Manager you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of packaging operations within our Supply Chain. This includes designing, implementing, and managing packaging solutions that ensure the safe and efficient transportation of parts.

What You'll Do

  • Leading the design and development of packaging solutions for automotive parts and components, ensuring they meet quality, safety, and cost requirements.
  • Collaborating with suppliers to source packaging materials and components, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of packaging supplies.
  • Continuously evaluating packaging processes to identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
  • Implementing quality control measures to maintain the integrity of packaged products throughout the supply chain, including conducting regular audits and inspections.
  • Supervising a team of packaging engineers, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure the successful execution of packaging operations.
  • Developing and managing the packaging budget, tracking expenses, identifying and delivering cost-saving opportunities, and optimizing packaging-related expenditures.
  • Accurately calculating the size of each packaging loop based on supplier location, build volume, and other relevant factors to optimize transportation and minimize costs as part of supplier nominations process as well as gateway deliverables.
  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive packaging plan for every part tool, ensuring that packaging solutions meet the requirements of each part and are aligned with production schedules and logistics processes.
  • Developing and implementing a tracing strategy for packaging materials and products throughout the supply chain, leveraging technology where possible to enhance visibility and accountability.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience in packaging design, development, and management, preferably in the automotive or manufacturing industry.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
  • Excellent project management abilities, with a track record of successfully leading cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement using recognised tools i.e. Six sigma, PDCA, DMAIC.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to packaging and transportation.
  • Experience in accurately calculating packaging loop sizes and creating/maintaining packaging plans.
  • Proficiency in SAP or similar ERP systems for data maintenance and management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
