Motorsports Program Engineer

In this position...

Interface with NHRA related to Ford's participation in all NHRA pro/sportsman classes. Engage series on rules, vision, and strategy to insure they are aligned with Ford’s strategy. Support Ford NHRA teams as it relates to NHRA rule changes and car/body development and potential technical projects for performance development.

This is a hybrid role requiring to be in office 3 days a week - Dearborn, MI or Concord, NC

You'll have...

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering (such as BSME).
  • 3+ year’s work experience in an automotive related engineering capacity.
  • Held an engineering role in a professional racing series
  • Highly motivated self-starter with excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to working hours
  • Strong problem solving skills in a team-oriented sport.

Even better, you may have…

  • 5+ years of work experience in professional racing.
  • Masters Degree in Engineering
  • 2+ years Motorsports experience
  • Ability to coordinate projects across multiple teams and race series.
  • Experience with racecar simulation software packages
  • SAE competition (BAJA / Formula SAE / Etc.), suspension/steering/tire design experience, vehicle dynamics development experience
    Experience with Motec, Pi and/or Atlas data acquisition tools

Other Information:

Periodic travel will be required to NASCAR races and Ford Performance Tech Center in NC.

This position is a range of salary grades 5-8 .

What you'll do…

  • Interface between Ford and NHRA from a NHRA Series Program perspective
  • Develop relationship with NHRA as single point of contact for Ford as related to NHRA rule changes and car/body development
  • Work within Ford Performance on strategic direction/implementation of series and car development
  • Work cross-functionally upon project approvals with VehDyn/Aero/PT/Analytics groups to develop tools and methods for success on the racetrack
  • Liaison between Ford and NHRA as it relates to series rules and direction of the sport
  • Interface with the Ford Design Studio to develop NHRA body submissions
  • Support teams with weekend race report compares and Analytics for Post-Race Meeting reports
  • Monitor performance weekend to weekend for major classes (FS, FSS, FX, F/C)
  • Determine if there are shortfalls in BoP or technical matters
  • Build BoP case based on analytics and data mining when shortcomings are identified
