Purpose of the Role:

McLaren Racing’s sustainability mission is to set the standard for high sustainability performance. This role is focused on the delivery of McLaren Racing’s environmental sustainability focus areas that include achieving net-zero by 2040 in line with the latest science, and progressing towards a circular economy, including researching and developing a Circular F1 Car.

Based in Woking at the McLaren Technology Centre, there may be some flexibility with working hours to fulfil this role effectively.


Principal Accountabilities:

You'll be a key member of the Sustainability team, supporting a wide range of activities, including but not limited to:

  • Project management of the circular F1 car project, including day-to-day relationships with various stakeholders, suppliers and partners, and providing sustainability technical input into materials and process analysis.
  • Supporting the scoping and implementation of circular solutions to McLaren Racing’s key materials, operational and event waste streams.
  • Working with key suppliers and licensees to identify and develop sustainability improvement opportunities.
  • Researching and assessing the sustainability credentials of projects/ solutions / products/ services and scoping potential applications within McLaren Racing.
  • Supporting delivery of environmental sustainability improvement projects relevant to risks and opportunities identified by McLaren Racing.
  • Maintenance of relevant environmental sustainability management systems and accreditations and management of day-to-day delivery of assurance processes (e.g., FIA 3* environmental accreditation, GHG footprint assurance).

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of environmental accounting, data management and reporting, with proven experience of taking a data-led approach to understanding and interpreting environmental sustainability impacts across a complex organisation.
  • Proven experience of sourcing, assessing and interpreting product lifecycle carbon analyses.
  • Highly desirable knowledge and experience of:
    • developing and delivering circular economy projects and operational waste reduction initiatives
    • nature-based solutions and assessing biodiversity impact of organisations
    • sustainable event delivery
    • sustainable manufacturing process and product improvement
  • Strong numerical, verbal and written communication capability.
  • Performance-oriented, able to use and apply environmental sustainability analysis to drive performance and communicate this performance to stakeholders.
  • Experienced in data analysis and presentation to support public sustainability reporting, internal governance reporting, and project management. Ability to communicate effectively to different audiences ranging from technical sustainability experts to McLaren Racing’s partners, people and fans.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking.
