Job description

McLaren Racing is excited to announce that 60 Scholars returns for its second year, which aims to encourage and support the next generation of female leaders in STEM. 60 scholars seeks to inspire 60 aspiring female STEM leaders through an accelerated course of learning and mentorship. The programme is delivered in partnership with Google, Cisco and Deloitte with Learning and Skills partner Udemy, all of whom are leaders in their fields and who strive to empower women into STEM careers. 

The programme is searching for 60 women, aged 18-25, based in the UK who wish to be a leader in a STEM industry in the future. If you have studied, or are studying, a STEM subject and wish to pursue a career in a STEM industry, this programme is designed to fast-track your career - whether that’s in software, technology, engineering, data or other STEM related careers. 

The programme will take place between July and August 2024 and will consist of a series of events that the 60 successful scholars will have unique access to: 

  • An in-person launch event live at the McLaren Technology Centre where you'll hear from senior leaders from within McLaren, Google, Cisco and Deloitte, network with your fellow scholars and leaders across our team and partners and take a tour of the McLaren Technology Centre. 
  • A McLaren Racing virtual immersion – You’ll hear from team members who will share more about their careers along with guidance on how to pursue a career in this space, and learn about how to manage your wellbeing for sustained success from our human performance experts. 
  • Further live virtual immersions from Google, Cisco and Deloitte – you’ll hear from individuals working within these organisations who will share their career journeys and will offer advice on pursuing careers in this space, and gain skillsets from experts across each company. 
  • The Udemy online learning platform to support ongoing learning and skills development across technical, functional, and soft skills. 
  • Live Q&A events with female STEM ambassadors who will share insight into their roles and careers, and where you will have the opportunity to ask questions. 
  • A celebratory in-person event at the McLaren Technology Centre with keynote talks from senior leaders, hands-on access to technology and opportunities to reflect on your journey with women from our programme partners.

About our 60 Scholars Official Learning and Skills Partner

Udemy is the Official Learning and Skills Partner of McLaren Racing. Through this partnership, Udemy supports McLaren’s vision to provide their teams with flexible and effective learning opportunities, driving the upskilling and performance of McLaren. Udemy offers thousands of up-to-date practical courses in dozens of languages across a wide range of topics from Python to project management. Udemy provides learners access to real-world expert instructors and the enterprise solutions they need to unlock potential for themselves and for others, helping open up a world of possibilities.

Please note that securing a place on the programme is not an offer of employment, work experience or an internship. The programme is a series of events and workshops that you will have exclusive access to as a cohort and is unpaid, but McLaren will support travel expenses for the in-person events at the McLaren Technology Centre.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this programme, you will need to be:

  • A woman or identify as a woman
  • Aged 18-25 at the point of application
  • Have studied, or currently be studying, a STEM subject at university, college, sixth form or through an apprenticeship. STEM subjects include physics, chemistry, biology, software, IT, analytics, engineering, mathematics, finance, design
  • Currently based in the UK and able to attend an event in person at the McLaren Technology Centre (travel costs to attend this event will be supported by McLaren)
  • Illustrate a desire to be a leader in a STEM industry in the future and be able to illustrate that you are taking steps towards this through learning, extra-curricular activities or projects

Please note that by applying to the programme you hereby grant McLaren rights to your image usage in content and all media over the course of the programme. You also confirm that you are happy to be part of an alumni group for 12 months after the end of the programme – this alumni group will be set up to share early careers opportunities within McLaren Racing, Google and Ciscoand you may also be invited to exclusive events or activities by McLaren Racing. Applicants also consent to being signed up to mailing lists of McLaren Racing and 60 Scholars partners.
