Category Manager

The people who work off-track are as important to Formula 1 as those behind the wheel. As a Category Manager, responsible for delivering a high standard of service to our stakeholders, securing best value and sustainability for the company, you could be one of them!

Reporting into the Senior Category Manager, based in our Biggin Hill Campus, you will:

  • Lead the procurement category management of the Race and Media engineering categories within F1, managing stakeholder relationships to provide commercial support  to the company and its supply base.
  • Identify and deliver sourcing opportunities through insight and analysis of the categories, including analysis of procurement spend & supply base to ensure best fit suppliers; supplier & marketplace research; regular interaction with Head of Departments and Finance in prioritising opportunities for the short, medium, and long term.
  • Develop effective relationships and collaborative working styles with key stakeholders, including business leads, Finance, Legal, PMO, Health & Safety and Compliance teams.
  • Using Category insights and analysis (spend data, tools & processes) to create a category plan to socialize and agree with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Take responsibility for commercial and contractual negotiations & drafting with  suppliers, ensuring the best value for the Formula One Group and robust terms & conditions that manages the F1’s risk appropriately, and are in alignment with business needs.
  • Running the end-to-end (RFx) processes and taking responsibility for on-going cost and contract management post contract nomination. This will include management of all commercial aspects of change control processes and ongoing procurement project management.
  • Manage supplier performance and collaborate with key suppliers to drive innovation and continuous improvement across commercial, technical and sustainability related objectives.
  • Manage and support direct reports through regular feedback meetings, and the annual objectives process.
  • Demonstrate competent workload management, dealing with competing priorities across different functions and ensuring  procurement systems are kept up to date.
  • Own the verification process of all Purchase Order Requisition’s (POR) within your categories and ensure that the businesses are compliant in their requests.
  • Continuously improve team processes (and lead on initiatives when required) that will enhance efficiency within the team and / or drive best practice for the wider business.

Specification Essentials

  • Procurement experience at category manager level within a demanding environment.
  • Experience of procurement project management advantageous.
  • MCIPS qualified or working towards MCIPS qualification required as a minimum.
  • Experience in the negotiation, implementation and ongoing management of Framework Agreements & Statement of Works.
  • Experience of generating fact-based insights through analysis using tools and techniques to provide strategic direction, and to be able to present to stakeholders where required.
  • Ability to influence and drive behavioural change both internally and with suppliers.
  • Working knowledge of P2P systems (Microsoft D365 and Medius preferred but not essential)
  • Direct line management experience
