Race Mechanic

Hendrick Motorsports, a leading NASCAR Motorsports operation, is currently seeking an experienced, highly motivated Race Mechanic. The successful individual will perform essential racetrack duties. The ideal candidate should have the ability to install and repair systems and components of the race car, such as brakes, drivetrain, suspension, steering, and cooling system. The successful individual must be able to communicate well and work closely with shop and track peers, as well as the impacted Driver. The position requires strong attention to detail, as well as strong knowledge of interior race car components and related systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including driveline, steering systems, brake and fuel systems, suspension, and other potentially troublesome areas.
  • Assist with NASCAR inspection process.
  • Responsible for making suspension and drivetrain changes as needed.
  • Weekly service of rebuilding of suspension from previous races
  • Responsible for installing the engine, gear, and transmission.
  • Examine all key parts, including belts, hoses, steering systems, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.
  • Examine vehicle components to determine the extent of damage or malfunctions.
  • Repair, replace, and adjust brakes.
  • Repair or replace parts such as gauges, gears, blowers, and bearings.
  • Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area.

  • Adaptability – ability to adapt to change in the workplace.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Minimum two years experience in a related position
  • Must possess a strong mechanical aptitude, thorough knowledge of race car components and car systems is required
  • Prior race experience preferred
  • Must be familiar with NASCAR Technical inspection process and race track procedures
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact well with others
  • Must be able to travel extensively and on short notice as needed
  • Must be a team player, be able to work a flexible schedule and have a high level of integrity
  • Must possess personal tools and equipment
