General Summary:

This position reports to the Head of Electronics or their designee; is located in Banbury, UK. A fixed term contract position which is responsible for supporting the electrical and electronics integration of new car projects. Involved in the design of robust, lightweight, composite material and metallic mounting systems and enclosures for the electronic and electrical installation for the Haas F1 car. Working closely with the electronics design engineers and mechanical design engineers, for all areas of the car. There may also be a requirement for the design of mechanical solutions for off car assets and rigs.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Design Duties may include:

      Design support for a variety of composite material and metallic components including:

  • Electronics enclosures.
  • Mounting systems for complex wiring harnesses and electronic modules.
  • Design studies in collaboration with mechanical and electronics design engineers across the whole car.
  • Liaising with the FE department to achieve quality/compliance/strength/weight targets for all components.
  • Mechanical design support for pit lane and off car assets such as pit stop system electrical and electronic elements and on car test and set up rigs.
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of Electronics or their designee.


Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering in a design capacity.
  • Previous experience of component design using metallic and composite materials.
  • Experience of working with FE to optimize designs to meet weight and strength requirements.
  • Experience of working in an electrical and/or electronics environment especially in a motorsport discipline.

 

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Strong technical background in racing car electrical and electronic systems from a mechanical perspective.
  • Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations.
  • Quick decision-making skills whilst working through problems in a scientific and analytical way.
  • Work well in a team environment with personnel at all levels.
  • A sympathetic approach to your work colleagues and an ability to integrate within a group environment.
  • A can-do positive approach and a willingness to help others is essential.


Equipment and Applications:

  • Proficient in the use of Catia V5/V6 3DX.
  • Solid computer knowledge, preferred experience in Microsoft Office products.

Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and priority within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require occasional domestic & international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

 

This position may require lifting up to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands.  Work environment includes race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
