Job Title: Materials – Industrial Placement Reports To: Principle Materials Engineer Department: Materials About the Department: The Materials Engineering department delivers crucial data to the wider company in order to enable efficient design, manufacturing and racing of car components. This information is generated in three main areas; New material characterisation, design & manufacturing process support and fault analysis and as a result involves a broad range of materials and associated processes. Role Overview: This factory-based role will sit within the Materials Department and deliver development and support for the Engineering Team in exploiting latest materials technology to add performance. This will range from the responsibility for the delivery of specific materials projects assigned, testing programs, assisting the department with failure investigations and related reporting to the maintenance of departmental documentation to assist the wider organisation. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a team working towards some of the most technologically advanced cars in the world. As part of the Materials team, you will be hands on with the testing of numerous types of high-performance materials and processes. You will work alongside talented engineers and manufacturing staff throughout the company, gaining a unique insight into the team and wider F1 world. Your Responsibilities: As a Materials Industrial Placement at Williams, you will: • Support to create, carry out and report on material testing programs and characterisation • Maintain selected process documents to support the wider organisation • Projects discussions, development and prioritisation with key stakeholders • Provide manufacturing support with Quality Assurance coupon testing • Support Research and Development projects within the department • Develop and maintain departmental documentation to assist the organisation; material data, processes, etc. • Assist with failure analysis to determine root cause and prevent recurrent issues • Ensure a safe and organised laboratory environment, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures. Preferred Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will possess the following: • Excellent communication and analytical skills with a strong focus on materials engineering and related technologies. • Practical approach with relevant studies and prior work experience. • Ability to work independently or collaboratively with cross-functional teams. • Adaptable, proactive, and accountable, with the ability to deliver to tight deadlines. • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn. • Understanding of material properties and testing techniques. • Currently pursuing a degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Materials and Structures, or a related discipline. • Experience in a laboratory environment (preferred but not essential). • Engineering experience through internships or personal projects (highly desirable).
