Aero Performance Software Engineer

We are looking for Software Engineer to join our Digital Performance Technologies (DPT) department here at Williams Racing, working with our Aero Performance team. 

You will be joining a multidisciplinary team responsible for understanding our on-track performance and aerodynamic correlation across our simulation environments.

Within this team you will be designing, developing, maintaining, supporting, and utilizing a suite of data analysis tools, and collaborating with our performance and data science groups to deliver complete software solutions.

You will gain expert knowledge of the tools working with Performance Engineers, Driving Simulator Engineers, Aerodynamicists, CFD and Wind Tunnel Engineers, contributing directly to the quest for performance in all areas relating to aerodynamic performance and correlation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working with the aero performance and trackside aero groups to research, develop and implement innovative software solutions.

  • Write well-structured, maintainable code, following and championing coding standards as defined by the DPT software and development team.

  • Learn and adopt the technologies and tools defined by the DPT software and development team, research and POC new ideas for potential introduction to the group.

  • Contributing to the analysis of data across track, wind tunnel and CFD environments.

  • Liaising with key stakeholders to define and develop solutions to domain problems.

  • Collaborating with other software groups in the company to enhance and develop the shared data platform and services.

  • Take ownership of application support where necessary.

  • Contributing toward improving software processes within the team.

Required Skills:

  • Degree in Computer Science or Aeronautical, Mechanical or Software Engineering (or the equivalent)

  • Knowledge of:

    • Developing graphical tools using MATLAB, Python, Julia (or equivalent)

    • Backend API’s in .NET Core or similar (REST or gRPC)

    • Some prior knowledge / exposure to modern web technologies such as React would be advantageous.

    • Database technologies: SQL Server, MySQL & NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB)

    • Software process management tools and source control (e.g. Azure DevOp’s and Git)

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work with a wide range of groups and disciplines seamlessly.

  • Proven track record of developing software following agile or similar working practices.

  • Demonstrated out of the box approach and readiness to learn new technologies rapidly.

  • Background or experience in data science, aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics or computer simulations.

  • A passion for working with the tools you develop.
