The Role
As an Aerodynamics Systems Engineer in our Wind Tunnel Operations group, you will proactively support the development of our wind tunnel and related facilities, equipment and instrumentation by validating and realising new technologies and upgrades. Working collaboratively with colleagues including mechanical and electrical designers and control systems engineers, you will build and test new products, systems and their sub-elements to ensure they meet their intended performance and functionality. You will then document and report your findings, and devise and deliver training to facilitate the handover to end users. Other activities in this varied role will include optimising the operation of existing systems to improve performance, and working with end users to capture their requirements for new products and updates.
To succeed in this position you will be a very proactive communicator, as your work will require close collaboration with engineers throughout the aerodynamics department, model makers and wind tunnel operators, and colleagues from other departments such as IT and software groups along with electronics and control systems. As someone with an active and curious mind, you will constantly strive to enhance your own capabilities and those of the wider team by helping to improve our methodology and processes, championing best practice and contributing towards the standardisation of our approach to control strategies.
The Person
You will have a strong understanding of, and ideally experience in, electronics and wiring and data acquisition systems, preferably with knowledge of network communications protocols such as CAN and EtherCAT. You will be able to demonstrate examples of building and maintaining complex mechanical systems including fault finding and resolution, and any knowledge of wind tunnel testing methods and technologies would be an advantage. You will have a rigorous approach to high quality experimental work, and ideally will have some experience in data analysis of average and time series data.
You will have a proactive mindset, and be able to work under your own initiative, managing your time effectively. This is fundamentally a team role, so you will be able to show us that you can work collaboratively even when under pressure.
In this role you will be based at our Technical Centre in Enstone. While your core working time will be during conventional office hours, there will be an expectation for some weekend and out-of-hours working when required in support of our team objectives.
