Live-in Classic and Supercar Mechanic

Overall Purpose:

A live-in Classic and Supercar Mechanic is required by a serious collector, based primarily in West Sussex, to maintain his varied Classic and Supercar collection, containing some of the finest British, Italian and German sports cars from the 1950’s to the 2000’s.

He/she will be provided with a very nearby yet separate small house in a beautiful, remote part of the countryside.

The collector is looking for someone with extensive and specialist experience at servicing and maintaining Classic Cars and Supercars, is a confident driver, able to load/unload a car trailer and tow it, and has good communication, cooperation and interpersonal skills. The cars should be ready to be used at all times unless agreed otherwise and there will be a need to prepare, transport and support the cars being at road, track or concours events, both in the UK and internationally.

The individual must be passionate about special cars, with the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines as well as happy to autonomously and pro-actively in this remote location, often alone with the cars.

Flexible working times will be part of this role as there may be work in evenings and weekends with possible overnight stays in London or elsewhere, as well as occasional travel in Europe.

Classic Car Mechanic Role:

  • Ensure all cars are roadworthy and ready for use
  • Seek expert assistance when required and managing the coordination with those experts
  • Being familiar with the full workings of the cars, including owner manuals
  • Transport the cars in a trailer to MOTs and car events
  • Maintain the two large garage spaces to a high standard of cleanliness and functionality
  • Ensure all required tools are sourced, available for use and kept in good and clean condition
  • Support any car use, including being available to attend any breakdowns

Security Awareness and other roles:

  • Ensure the garages physical and electronic security systems are used appropriately
  • Liaise with security companies who manage the technical aspects of security for the garages and to have a good understanding of these systems
  • Preparation and alertness to minimise any risk of car theft
  • Be familiar with technical systems in the house and assist with these when necessary
  • You will form part of the on-site security team
  • Coordinate with the other team members living on site to ensure there is a 24/7 security presence, including regular CCTV monitoring and patrols.
  • Some liaison with security companies who manage the technical aspects of security and to have a thorough understanding of these systems.
  • Oversee that the chauffeur keeps day cars clean, roadworthy and with petrol
  • Occasionally, step in with some driving if chauffeur not available
