SQD Engineer - Electrical

What to Expect

We are recruiting for a SQD Engineer - Electrical to join our fantastic Series Vehicle Line team within the Supplier Quality and Development department, work related experience with automotive systems, manufacturing processes and quality control is a must. This includes but not limited to electric and electronic assemblies, software quality and small mechanisms. Any previous practical application in a quality or manufacturing engineering environment is essential.

This role is based primarily at the McLaren Production Centre, where you will be assigned a deck of suppliers and be expected to collaboratively work with them to assure McLaren Quality requirements are met.

What You'll Do

  • Production Sustaining through effective design of experiment creation and root cause analysis of day-to-day supplier quality concerns.
  • Leading all supplier quality concern resolution using the 8D methodology and similar tools.
  • Developing quality improvement strategies with poor performing suppliers and lead execution through to completion that will support mitigate plant production disruptions.
  • Managing supplier part concession requests to ensure every known issue is planned and its intrinsic risks mitigated to support production plans.
  • Driving continuous improvement on assigned supply base, track and manage PPAP process to agreed delivery plan.
  • Monitoring and generating the performance metrics of assigned suppliers, feedback to the wider organisation on quality performance to support informed decision making.
  • Supporting the quality operations team whenever required to assure accuracy and effectiveness of Inspection Plans.
  • Managing the Cost of Non-Quality associated with confirmed supplier quality concerns.
  • Providing supplier progress reporting to the management team for PPAP delivery forecast / actual confirmation.

What You'll Bring

  • Understanding of supply chain and value stream map
  • Understand the manufacturing process within McLaren Production Centre.
  • Ability to interrogate control plans and evaluate supplier’s ability to deliver quality, on time to meet company production needs.
  • Must be capable of planning manufacture of their components at the supplier from goods-in to goods-out, if required.
  • Capable of carrying out effective scenario planning to establish potential mitigation actions, if required.
  • Technical Engineering qualified to Degree standard; Master preferred.
  • Must have previous experience in quality, manufacturing or similar in a production environment.
  • Have a working understanding of Quality Core tools: Control Plan, PPAP, MSA, FMEA, SPC, APQP.
  • Have a working understanding of DMAIC tools: VSM, Pareto Chart, RCA, Design of Experiment, Poka-Yoke.
  • High literacy on Problem Solving (8D) technique.
  • Practical use of Microsoft Office and Office 365 apps, SAP, CATIA and Minitab.
  • Application knowledge of electric and electronic components, troubleshooting of software and hardware.
