Purpose of the Role:

To schedule and maintain Composite Laminating Production queues, coordinating in-house efforts between all shop representatives and planning for an effective, constant velocity manufacturing program through the McLaren Racing Composites Facility.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Detailed scheduling and forecasting of work queues and capacity management within Composite Laminating.
  • Channel the work requests of each Project Management team for most effective production cycle from raw material to finished product.
  • Build a solid relationship with planning teams to understand optimal in-house projects, impacting our make vs buy strategy.
  • Coordination of part production and movement between work centres, working with Quality, Internal logistics and planning to achieve optimum workflow.
  • Set and constantly review capacity lines versus matched reality
  • Support Capacity planning with the shop, advising longer term resource requirements to support team flexing to meet demand.
  • Drive the continual improvement of resource and capacity planning projects within the composite laminating function
  • Liaise with procurement for supplier inbound deliveries
  • Measure and understand slip within the workshops
  • Support manager and TL’s with specific target setting for each shift. Constant evaluation of job run times vs planned times to align capacity charts with reality.
  • Identify and evaluate jobs/projects with scope for efficiency improvements. Work with PE, design and TL’s to implement process changes to maximise efficiency, quality and cost.

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Qualified in related discipline or equivalent experience
  • An understanding of the commercial side of low volume small batch manufacture
  • Experience in a similar position within a high-precision manufacturing environment (ideally in composites)
  • Experience of continuous improvement techniques would be a distinct advantage

McLaren Racing Composites (MRC) is based at the McLaren Racing Composites Facility in Woking Business Park. This is a new state-of-the-art production centre with the latest in CNC machines and autoclave technology, an open plan office, gym and quiet room. The site is situated on the canal for easy walking and cycling commutes as well as local amenities within walking distance.
