Purpose of the Role:
Reliability is essential to our championship winning chances. The Reliability & Continuous Improvement Engineer role is to support a zero DNF organisation, ensuring zero G1 & G2 faults as a result of operational/manufacturing causes. They are responsible for continuingly reducing the quantity and trends of G3 &4 faults, year on year by re-thinking and establishing new processes to make significant step changes in manufacturing reliability.
Secondly, the Reliability & Continuous Improvement Engineer shall demonstrate positive and quantifiable continuous improvement across the entire organisation, deploying it all areas of manufacturing, making effective change, fast.
Role Dimensions:
Primarily based at McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) & McLaren Racing Composites (MRC). The role may involve travel to suppliers, test facilities and race/test events.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Accountable for operational reliability, ensuring reliability is at the forefront of everything we do. Striving for zero G1 & G2 faults.
- Accountable for continually improving trackside reliability and reducing G3 & G4 faults, by continually improving processes.
- If issues arise trackside, lead the decision-making process to contain and ensure robust resolutions are established in a timely manner.
- Work closely across functions, including design and trackside to build bridges, implementing end to end reliability best practices.
- Lead operational continuous improvement projects, making quantifiable, results driven, performance orientated change, across the organisation.
- Expand CI learning from a department is transferred and implemented consistently in all areas where it is applicable.
- Work with and support existing continuous improvement and process engineering focused staff.
- Work with the digital transformation team to ensure all digital change across the organisation is uniform and supported long term.
Job requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Digitally minded with a solid understanding of modern computational capabilities.
- Degree in Production / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience working in a range of F1 related manufacturing environments.
- Skilled in problem solving techniques and auditing
- Experience and knowledge in FMEA and process mapping
- Proactively minded with a demonstrated history of continuous improvement
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail
- Self-motivated with a demonstrated history of leading improvement projects from initiation through to completion.
- Clear & effective communicator at all levels.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking.
