What to Expect

Reporting directly into the PMO Senior Manager, the Project Lead’s role is to support Programme Leader in applying Project Governance process and tools to achieve project targets and business imperatives with robust, efficient, and consistent delivery of vehicle projects. Playing a key role in executing and improving all Project Management processes to ensure robust and efficient project delivery, with reference to the McLaren Development process. Responsibility for ensuring the appropriate strategy for each project is followed to maximise efficiency, accuracy, and profitability of each individual project.

The Project Lead is the key ambassador of the programme management vision and the major stakeholder of the project timing plan (HLP), specification and KPIs. The role acts as the intrinsic link between Project, Engineering and Operations and provides the analysis and coordination to allow these teams to operate cohesively and consistently against all McLaren processes

The Project Lead operates cross-functionally and provides guidance and support to the project team in communicating priorities and setting deadlines, outlining path to target, identifying potential issues/roadblocks, and supporting their resolution.

Coaching and mentoring the Project Analysts to ensure they operate per the Project Management processes and deploy best practices and exhibiting role model behaviours inside and outside the PMO team.

What You'll Do

  • Responsible for Programme high level planning including detailed analysis of critical paths interacting with all departments. Including and maintenance.
  • Lead project and timing meetings to track the progress status of the project and its sub elements and support the team toward project objectives support the Programme Leader in deploying best practice Project Management methodology (MPM) and the MDP framework.

- Facilitate and provide structure to business-critical meetings including support to close open or ongoing actions.

  • Ensure action and resource plans from all functions support project milestones and timing.
  • Where required, support the Project Leader in integrating Engineering Supplier governance into McLaren governance, to ensure progress is monitored and tracked against targets.
  • Support the Project Leader and the team in identifying and delivering project milestones, according to MDP. Pro-actively set up and lead preparation of Boardwalk and Gateway reviews and chair those meetings
  • Responsible for executive review pack preparation and presenting status to executives
  • Support the team in detecting and identifying program risks and promote/facilitate investigation and definition of effective recovery actions/plans
  • Establish, improve and maintain tracking and reporting tools related to release schedule and Change Management and Parts Management
  • Collaborate with the development team to oversee the development plan definition and ensure vehicles fleet specification is aligned and consistent with assigned resources and capability to deliver project contents
  • Support the Head of Futures Vehicles and Programme Leaders in the application of PMXU by providing guidance in any cost vs change content vs timing analysis
  • Facilitating Lessons learned, investigating improvements, and promoting a continuous improvement culture.
  • Define the communication strategy in order to facilitate information circulation inside and outside the Project “Team” through hard and soft program management tools
  • Liaise at Director/key stakeholder level within MPC to resolve mis-build and support any necessary RCA activities.
  • Understand, communicate, and facilitate the Quality Management System and latest status.
  • Facilitate the implementation and progression of Programme Technical Risk Management
  • Apply and provide guidance on standardised Project Management Process and Governance to Programmes adhering to MDP, ISO9001 & TS16949
  • Undertake Critical tasks as / when required to “get the job done” – lead by example to drive the culture of all.

What You'll Bring

  • Educated to degree level in Management Engineering or Automotive/Mechanical Engineering
  • Experienced with Program Management tools and methodologies
  • Previous experience related to high complexity products and multidisciplinary job environment. Automotive experience preferable, aerospace, defence or locomotive industries also considered
  • Proven track record in delivering projects and thorough understanding of automotive business model and product development process
  • Critical, factual and data driven approach based on knowledge of problem solving and cause-effects analysis methodologies
  • Data analysis skills and ability to summarize findings and drive conclusions
  • Management of timing plans, in multi-project contexts
  • Advanced level of MS Excel and proficiency in producing effective presentation and full project reporting
  • Good knowledge of financial and quality metrics
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems
  • Understanding of ISO9001(TS16949)
