Powertrain Test Manager

What to Expect

  • Reporting to the Senior Testing Engineer Manager, he/she will be responsible for the powertrain test team and facility.
  • Facilitate a powertrain test and analysis service to the powertrain function group.
  • Support the Quality team with powertrain Quality Concerns RCA and resolution.
  • Work with the Powertrain Team, Chief Engineers, and Project Management Office to provide guidance on the suitability of Powertrain technologies to meet product attribute expectations.
  • Work closely with the project teams to enable the correct allocation of funds within the budget (VTC) to meet the DVP requirements.
  • Plan the testing activities to ensure minimum test cell downtime.
  • Manage the powertrain testing budget ensuring costs are within target and highlighting any potential overspend in a timely fashion.
  • Manage the powertrain test facility ensuring it maintained to a high standard and all CIP opportunities are exploited.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct detailed planning of Powertrain test activities across multiple programmes and projects. This includes but not limited to; hardware procurement, instrumentation preparation, test hardware assembly, test time, reporting time, post-test inspections.
  • Work with testing partners or technical partners to coordinate facilities, resources, and equipment to support efficient execution of the test plan within agreed budget constraints.
  • Manage operational and capital expenditure for the department.
  • Identify and support improvements in testing efficiency.
  • Forecast all spend requirements at least one year ahead.
  • Ensure tests are fully defined by the Function Group in a test request or as part of the programme Design Validation Plan (DVP).
  • Ensure testing activities are completed to the pre-defined test specification.
  • Review, approve and upload test reports to the MRN database and send to the necessary internal customer.
  • Maintain close relationships with other engineers across Powertrain (Engine, Systems, Transmission, Hybrid) and the business in general to better understand their testing requirements.
  • Support root cause investigations of powertrain issues identified during various rig and vehicle testing.
  • Preparation and presentation of material to support external and internal project status reviews as required.
  • Mentor the team in any of the above aspects to complement their roles.

What You'll Bring

  • Extensive knowledge of all Powertrain systems including ICE, Hybrid, Transmission & Powertrain Systems and their corresponding testing techniques.
  • Experienced with Powertrain calibration and data analysis tools including ETAS, AVL Cameo, Concerto, Vector etc.
  • Experienced in a test, development environment – test set up, instrumentation, logging, fault analysis, data processing and reporting for rigs and vehicles.
  • Familiarity with high voltage systems.
  • Python, MATLAB and SIMULINK experience is preferable.
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products is essential
