Purpose of the Role:

The Head Design and R&D Engineer is responsible for leading all factory-based design, development, and testing. This role is responsible for delivering vehicle performance and reliability and oversees the design department as well as project-based engineers. Priorities and deliverables are set in conjunction with the Technical Director and Competition Director.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Manage prioritization and workflow of Design and R&D project engineers
  • Work with Technical Director and Competition director to define performance and reliability targets and deliverables
  • Oversee static and rig tests
  • Implement best practices for drawing management
  • Create and enforce quality control and build process standards
  • Limited travel to some races and test events

Job requirements

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering field
  • 10+ years experience in a motorsports or related field
  • CAD Design experience, Solidworks preferred
  • Drawing/Drafting and GD&T experience
  • Direct hands on experience with dyno, shaker, wind tunnel, and/or other rig testing
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior position as a motorsport Design or R&D Engineer
  • Previous work in IndyCar, F1, NASCAR, WEC, IMSA, or other top level professional racing series
  • Former trackside experience
